SUnnAH And EiD





The effort has been made only for sake of Allah Almighty, so the error was of mine but Allah Almighty Knows the best. If i wronged, I pray to Almighty Allah "Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers" [Al Quran, Surah Al-Araf, Chapter 7, Verse No. 23]

Zakat-ul-Fitr is Obligatory: Narrated Ibn Umar: Allah's Apostle enjoined the payment of one Sa' of dates or one Sa' of barley as Zakat-ul-Fitr on every Muslim slave or free, male or female, young or old, and he ordered that it be paid before the people went out to offer the 'Id prayer. (One Sa' = 3 Kilograms approx.) [Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 25, Number 579]

Prophet ate dates before for Eid ul Fitr prayer: Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Apostle never proceeded (for the prayer) on the Day of 'Id-ul-Fitr unless he had eaten some dates. Anas also narrated: The Prophet used to eat odd number of dates.

“And he would not eat on the day of Adha until he prayed”[Tirmidhi Hadith No. 542]




Women were ordered going out to Eid Prayers: Narrated Um 'Atiya: We were ordered to bring out our menstruating women and veiled women in the religious gatherings and invocation of Muslims on the two 'Id festivals. These menstruating women were to keep away from their Musalla. A woman asked, "O Allah's Apostle ' What about one who does not have a veil?" He said, "Let her share the veil of her companion." No Naffil or Sunnah before or after Eid prayers: Narrated Ibn Abbas: The Prophet offered a two Rakat prayer on the Day of Id ul Fitr and he did not pray before or after it. Then he went towards women along with Bilal and ordered them to pay alms and so they started giving their earrings and necklaces (in charity). [Sahih Bukhari: Volume 2, Book 15, No. 81] and other references: [Sahih Bukhari Vol. 2 No. 104, Sahih Muslim no. 1935, Ibn Majah No. 1273, Nasai No. 1588, Abu Dawud No. 1159, Tirmidhi No. 537]


The prayers for both Ids take place before the Khutbah: Narrated 'Abdullah bin Umar: Allah's Apostle used to offer the prayer of 'Id-ul-Adha and 'Id-ul-Fitr and then deliver the Khutba after the prayer.

 No Adhan No Iqama for Eid prayers: Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: “I observed prayer with the Messenger of Allah on the 'Id day. He commenced with prayer before the sermon without Adhan and Iqama. ….” [Sahih Muslim: Book 4, Number 1926] and other references: [Sahih Bukhari V2 No. 78, Sahih Muslim No. 1927, Sunan An-Nasai No. 1563, Ibn Majah No. 1274, Tirmidhi No. 532, Abu Dawud No. 1146, 1148]



 The Takbir During the Two Eid: It was reported from Ibn Shihab, from Urwah from Aishah that the Messenger of Allah would say the Takbir on (Eid) Al-Fitr and Al-Adha seven times in the first (Rakah) and five times in the second.

He said: without counting the two Takbirs of Ruku. [Sunan Abu Dawud: Hadith No. 1150]


Both Takbirs before recitation: Amr bin Shu'aib reported from his father, from his grandfather that the Prophet said "There should be seven Takbirs in the first (Rakah) of Al-Fitr, and five in the second. And the recitation should be after them" [Sunan Abu Dawud, V1 No. 1151] and other references:[Sunan Ibn Majah, Vol. 2, No. 1277, Jami At-Tirmidhi, Vol. 1 No. 536]


Choice whether to sit and listen to Eid Khutbah: It was narrated from Abdullah bin As Sa'ib: The Prophet (peace be upon him) offered the Eid prayer and said:"We are going to deliver a Khutbah, so whoever wishes to sit may sit, and whoever wishes to leave may leave" [Sunan Ibn Majah Vol. 2 Hadith No. 1290, Sunan Abu Dawud Vol. 1 Hadith No. 1155, Sunan An- Nasai Vol. 1 No. 1572]


After the Eid Prayer, Prophet returned by different route: Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah: On the Day of 'Id the Prophet used to return (after offering the 'Id prayer) through a way different from that by which he went.
