Summary Medical Camp Nallah 30th June 2013

• Its was another camp organized by Shajri welfare Trust ® in one of the remote villages  of Islamabad
• Camp started sharp on 5:30 p.m.
• Theme of this medical camp was same as previous medical camps i.e., providing free medical advice, free medication, free blood grouping and free diabetes and hypertension checking.
• 65 patients were checked in 2 hours.
• Majority of the patients were old age women and children.
• Contrary to other general ailments, there was good quantity of patients with allergy.
• Another rarity in this area was an old lady of the age  more than 100 years, who presented for the loss of vision in right eye and decreased vision in left eye along with Acid peptic disease
• A complicated neurological case was referred to hospital.
• With the local co-operation and with efforts of shajri trust it became another success story.

SUMMARY MEDICAL CAMP HERDOGHER 23-06-2013

• Camp started at 06:00 p.m. at a school building.
• It was a 2 hour camp, from 06:00 p.m. to 08:00 p.m.
• It was collaboration between Shajri Welfare Trust® and a local organization.
• More than 100 patients were treated in 2 hours
• Free medication was given to most of them.
• Free blood sugar test, free blood group checking, free blood pressure checking was also done.
• Special children and dermatology advice and treatment were given by the doctors who worked in relevant specialties.
•  A new awareness technique, which previously never was used in our medical camps, was introduced.
• We spread awareness about blood donation, blood pressure and diabetes on multimedia projector in lawn of the venue.
•  On spot otoscopy (ear examination with a device) and opthalmoscopy (eye examination with a device) was also done
• The major portion of the patients was women and children, for them we set different stations for the ease of patients.
• Male and female checkups were arranged differently by male and female doctors respectively.
• The main diseases were hypertension, diabetes, general body aches, upper respiratory tract infections, gastroenteritis, otitis , skin diseases, lumbago, sciatica, hepatitis etc
• Overall the camp was another success story in way of completing the mission of SHAJRI WELFARE TRUST®.
• People in large number were benefited from it.

• We thank local volunteers for their efforts

MEDICAL CAMP DADOCHA—16th JUNE, 2013

• Camp started at 09:00 a.m. sharp.

• Free medicines for almost all the common diseases were given.

• The common presentations were Hypertension, Diabetes (both type 1 and type 2), gastroenteritis, Upper respiratory tract infections, Acid peptic diseases, anemia, and many other common symptoms like fever, cough, weakness, generalized body aches etc.

• The major problem of this area was compliance, specially women don’t use ant hyperglycemic and anti hypertensive medications.

• We offered free Blood pressure monitoring.

• Free of cast Blood sugar random was also checked.

• Few people were referred to hospital for further investigations and specialist care.

• An addition to our camp was blood group checking.

• We checked free blood groups of people.

• Awareness about blood donation was also spread to the patients through verbal and written means.

• More than 90 people were checked.

• Medical department thanks all the donors, volunteers and shajri team for their help and support. Without which it would have been impossible.

Free Medical Camp In Herdogher

This camp was a part of series of camps we have been arranging from the forum of Shajri welfare trust in villages of Islamabad.

The main theme of medical camp was the same,  that was to spread health awareness among the masses and to help people get free of cost treatment and guidance.

• The camp was totally sponsored by locals.The worth mentioning fact is that almost 40-45% of total cost was sponsored by non-earning youth of the village,  out of their pocket money.
• It was held for 2 hours and 30 minutes, was held on 22nd of July 2012 from 4:00 p.m to 6:30p.m.
• The camp was attended by 78 people. The youngest patient who was brought to camp was of 10 months. At the other extreme of age there came a patient of 80 years of age.
• Fasting blood sugar levels of more than 45 people were checked as people were fasting at the time of checking. This is a more   specific test as compared to random blood sugar levels for the diagnosis of diabetes.
• The cases presented in Camp were almost of every sort. i.e. hypertension, diabetes, gastric discomfort, general body aches, weakness, abscess (to which incision and drainage was done), headache, loss of appetite, constipation, cough, pterygium, eye dryness, fever, tonsillitis, skin problems, back pain,hepatitis, valvular diseases and many more.
• There were more than 70 different drugs available free of cost.
• Some people were requested to come to hospital for investigations. One of the patient was recently diagnosed, free of cost, hepatitis C after expansive tests facilitated by Shajri Welfare Trust. Another one was provided free costly medication from tertiary care hospital (P.I.M.S.). A kid was also investigated, fortunately his labs came out normal.
• 100 % free medicines were provided for every patient came within the due time, with the diseases mentioned above.
• Some people who came late after closing were provided with medications later on.
• The co-operation of the local school owners was phenomenal. They helped us by giving their place for camp, they were helping hand during the camp too.

Hachiko...An example of loyalty

      "Dog is a loyal and faithful animal" we keep hearing this statement from childhood. But one dog about which I came to know this morning is a special one, Hachiko, famous for the loyalty for his deceased owner for almost 9-11 years.

        It was a 1 year owner-pet relationship from 1924-1925. During this one year Hachiko used to see his owner off and wait for his return at the station nearby. This routine continued after the death of his owner in 1925 till the death of Hachiko in 1935. Hachiko's loyalty came into spotlight when a student of the owner started studying breed of the dog and he followed Hachiko, he found out that dog appeared just at the time of the owner's arrival.Later Hachiko was written about in news papers. He was a recognized symbol of loyalty and the vigil of Hachiko was used by teachers as an example to follow for children.
         Before the death of Hachiko in 1934, the bronze statue of the dog was erected at the station where he waited for his master. Hachiko was present at the unveiling of statue.

      There is an annual ceremony is conducted at the station on 8th of April. His mounted and stuffed remains are kept in national science museum of Japan in Ueno, Tokyo.

A film was premiered in 2009 based on true story of the dog. Hollywood actor Richard Gere played the role of Professor (Owner of the Dog).

            This was my first chance to listen to a leading journalist and anchor live. I was expecting a typical talk like they do on t.v. she started of by accepting the fact that they speak half truth on televisions because they are afraid of the consequences of speaking the whole truth. She later told that she is being given life threats. She was quite open on different facts and what made me her fan was that she was speaking against army in-front of retired army person who was the speaker there and was invited for a special talk and presentation.

            I quote  "we talk about politician's corruption, but we don't talk about army's corruption.we want to make politician's pay for their mistakes but we can not criticize army. We talk about all the budgets and their errors but we cannot even have a look at defence budget. We stand against politicians but we are not allowed to stand against the Holy Cows (army). We question Asif Zardari but we cannot bring Musharraf in court. We have been accusing politicians for breaking the country but let me tell you it was army who did that, we need to tell our kids the truth, the full truth not the half truth that we have been speaking for centuries. But let me tell you   , If we don't set ourselves straight then we may lose balochistan, and this time we won't accuse those who have been accused wrongly, but we would hold the necks of those who are murdering balochis and these are not politicians. If politicians make mistakes then we would question them but at least those who governed this country for more than 40 years should also be questioned. We should dig the grave of zia-ul-haq and ask why did he give us gift of talibaan. I am not saying that politicians are always right but at least they governed less and gave something but army men they governed more and only put Pakistan on back foot. I know that media brought a positive change and played a crucial role in bringing democracy to Pakistan but accept that we don't show people what they should see. We are making rumours the headlines and breaking news, we want people to believe rumours and like them and respond them. We are not doing right.We do it just to earn ratings and money, shame on us"

           Every word coming out of her mouth was being responded with clapping from the youth of Pakistan probably because me and many other minds had similar thoughts and to my surprise some retired army men were also appreciating the full truth. Her words were making my belief strong that Pakistan is changing, and we started speaking and appreciating truth. And I believe truthful people are those who bring change.

I have attended many free medical camps and arranged some of them by myself. but this camp sort of set-up was different in many  aspects.I am using the word "sort-of" because it was not a routine type of a medical camp where we sit, make slips and give medicines for different diseases. It was a camp where only trauma patients were treated, or should I say self inflicted trauma patients, obviously they had their own reasons for giving injuries to themselves. To cut it short SHAJRI's medical department arranged the medical camp for Shiite mourners of  Muharram at gagri, a village in Islamabad on 14th dec.2011.

I will share a short summary of that medical camp.

• Almost 25 people were treated.
• Mostly there were back injuries.
• One patient presented with scalp laceration, was bleeding profusely and he was just 15 years of age, later somebody told me that he did that intentionally.(may be for more reward) 
• Stitch was also applied on one person, his wound was wide open and was bleeding continuously.
• 11 years old kid also came with the wound on his back after mourning.
• A 70 years old man's wounds were also cleaned.

      Apart from witnessing the mourning live, two things that astonished me most were the extremes of ages. As I mentioned a boy of 11 years and an old man of 70 years. well apart from the differences, I gotta accept the passion in these people. 

      At the place of camp an old man almost of 80 joined us. I was told that this man used to cut himself even after the age of 75.I asked about that and he told "when these young men start cutting themselves, my soul burns and I want to cut myself badly but my body does not allow me". And truth was evident from his firm fist and the tone in which he was talking. Later he showed some light on history of Karbala. He mentioned that even he keeps on forgetting the names of  his grandsons but still he remembers these key points.

      Hospitality, respect, gratitude was the response of those people in answer to our efforts.I was accompanied by a paramedic, one shajri volunteer,few local volunteers.Overall it was great experience.
